The calendar tables provide an interface to trigger a popup display of a day, week or month of events. It also tracks mouse moves and updates the preview section below the tables.
To trigger a popup window:
for a whole month click on View All in the upper corner of the desired month.
for a week (Sunday to Saturday), click on the desired week number at the right edge of the month.
for a single day, click on the blue date number in the desired month. (this can be set to use movable overlays (drop-in boxes) instead of pop-ups(1).)
To use the calendar table with the preview section: Open the preview section and move the mouse over the dates of interest while looking at the right side of the preview section. The tab key can also be used to select the days, weeks and month View All links and the preview section will track the date.
The right half of the Preview section has a tool bar of controls, the Date selected and a compact list of events on the date selected. The tool bar consists of 3 types of control; date controls, search tool and a latest additions (“Just-in”) button.
The date controls look a bit like VCR/DVD shuttle controls. The double-arrows shift the Date selected forward or back by a week, the single-arrows shift the Date selected forward or back by a single day. Clicking on the “Date:” in the middle returns the Date selected to the current date.
The search control finds events matching the text entered in the box shown (“website” in our example). The search can also be limited by event type keys entered between square brackets (in our example M for music events). The matches found are displayed in the left half of the preview section. Results can also be shown in an Overlay drop-in box (Overlay2 setting). To keep outputs manageable, the search looks no further than 90 days forward from the selected date. The first 5 events found are displayed with all details, followed by a compact list of the next 10 or so events. You can click on the dates in the list to see the full day of events in a pop-up window. You can repeat and fine tune the search by changing the Date selected to a later date, or changing the find string or the event types to include, then click on the circular recycle arrow beside the box.
Common event type keys to put between [ ] include; A =Arts | B =Buying and selling | D =Dancing | E =Entertainment | F =Food | G =Gardening | H =Health | K =Kid friendly | L =Lecture | M=Music | N =Newspaper | O =Outdoor activity | P =Plays/theatre | Q =French | R =Religious | S =Sports | T =Tour | U =Unlist | V =Video/Movies | W =Workshop | Y =Meetings (AGM).
The (“Just-in”) button is a way to check to see what events were added since your last visit. Select a date in the desired month (early dates work best), then click on the “Just-in” button (looks like an in-box). The results of the 10 most recently added events for that month are displayed in the left half of the preview window. You can sort the events by reverse order of entry or by the event dates.
The compact list of events for the date selected are shown in the right half of the preview section. Each event is listed by its name, location and optional extra date information. To see the description and time of the event move your mouse over the event in the list. To see a popup window for the selected day with all info, click on the date at the top of the list. To view an expanded list in the preview window, click on the (MORE) link beside the date at the top of the list
(2).
When not displaying search or “Just-in” results, the left-hand side of the preview section displays the events on the day preceding the date selected. This allows you to see any 2-day events that begin on the prior date.
